Expressive Arts

Curriculum

Our thriving Art Department delivers a curriculum across 4 schools: Kindergarten, Primary, Secondary and the International School. The Art department consists of specialist teachers who deliver schemes of learning that develop skills within a variety of specialisms.

In Kindergarten, Art is delivered at an early age is to enthuse students in the subject, building confidence in becoming young artists in preparation for their move into Primary. Through a variety of formats such as learning activities, stories and play based art, students develop basic art making skills so that they can create a plethora of art using a wide variety of materials. We support our students through self-expression, managing their feelings, encourage them to be creative and expressive themselves in their own artist way. In Primary and JH, students focus on developing hand and eye co-ordination, working with a variety of mediums and developing their independent thinking, critical and analytical skills. A range of different painting techniques, origami, 3D structures, illustration, ceramics and a variety of new tools, processes and techniques are discovered. Projects allow students to learn about emotion and self-expression, atmospheric music and creating an outcome that displays mindfulness and seeks opinion. Sustainability and environmental impact, including recycling and founds objects within artwork, allows students to create a positive change for their future.

At Secondary school, students follow the CIE IGCSE qualification and have the option to study A-Level or IB Art in Grade 11. Our students display confidence in their ability and skills and are well versed in a variety of art movements, history and can describe their favourite artists. Students can visit galleries, museums and exhibitions to view, discuss and critically analyse the work of others. Students explore a variety of materials and medium in our world class facilities, have access to a well-equipped ceramics room, photography and graphic design room within our bespoke ICC space.

Welcome to our Art Department gallery page.

Our curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 12 offers our students a wide variety of contexts, skills, materials and facilities. Our students are encouraged in a supportive yet challenging environment to observe the world around them and think differently. Studying inspirational topics from both International and Chinese starting points our children explore historical and contemporary artists and their work. Our aim is to create artists who question, experiment and explore the world around them.
