Boarding

Boarding at Wuxi Dipont School of Arts and Science follows an international model whereby each boarding house is fully integrated into the life of the school. Looking after a student’s emotional and mental health is at the centre of good pastoral care and we have systems in place at school to ensure every child will flourish.

A mixture of local and expatriate staff is on campus to provide opportunities for students to develop outside of the classroom. Tutors meet regularly with the pupils under their care and there is a strong support network. New to boarding students will be placed in a bedroom with existing boarders to help them settle to the rules and systems of the boarding houses. We place students in bedrooms with others of the same age so they can develop strong friendship links. One of the great things about residential life is the friendship made so we have a system in which students won’t share a room with the same students for a full year and avoid becoming isolated.

Each house has 5 residential members of staff who are always available to the students. In the boarding houses, our housemasters / housemistress are Chinese speaking and can always be contacted by email or, during work hours, by phone. If there are any issues the house staff will contact the parents immediately. We encourage a dialogue between the parents and the boarding house staff, and we are always happy to help.

Our boarding system creates an environment that nurtures pupils’ social and educational development. Boarding pupils have the opportunity to take part in an extensive range of cultural, creative and sporting activities, ensuring fun free time, as well as developing their knowledge and skills.
